Become as Little Children
First, I want to say a very special happy birthday to my Dad. October 16 is special to me now, and today it's 45 years since the day you were born, wow! Last year at this time I took a trip to the Provo temple with my college friends to think of you, and today I am a missionary, trying to honor you. I love you, Dad!
What to say about this week. This week was a week of revelation for me. I approached my studies with questions, and especially talking them through with my companion was really inspiration filled. For example, we came out of studies learning that we need to tap more into the power of the Spirit than trying to come up with answers to every doubt. Sometimes I feel like I need to have a scripture as an answer for everything, but from some of our lessons this week we saw clearly that the logic of doctrine isn't enough to change someone's mind. I learned from PMG that only the Holy Ghost can change hearts. I want to focus better on bringing the Spirit really strongly into lessons and letting him teach. I cannot do this work alone.

Unfortunately not many people came to church this week, but we also had a simply beautiful lesson with our 10 year old investigator and several of her friends. I can see why God asks us to be like children! They all come from such diverse backgrounds, all of them from immigrant parents from Mexico, Ethiopia, and Iraq. Their emotions ran over as we talked about their parents love and sacrifices for them as an analogy my companion and I were making about God's love for us. We didn't get very far in the Restoration but
we got to hear several of the girls pray. It was so precious to hear one of them ask, "God, please bless the missionaries to help other people learn more about you." I love teaching children, they are so receptive!
Oh and good news, we have an investigator on date for baptism and confirmation now! He's great, he recently married a member, and is open to learning. Pray for him as he tries to get his own answers about the truth of the Book of Mormon! Good things happening even though I feel like our progress is slow. I just want to have faith that miracles I can't yet see are possible.
I just love Alma 26, it reminds me of the reason I am here, to rejoice, and "yea, and my joy is carried away, even unto boasting in my God; for he has all power, all wisdom, and all understanding; he comprehendeth all things, and he is a merciful Being, even unto salvation, to those who will repent and believe on his name." I just want others to feel that same joy of repentance!
Big shoutout to my friends just leaving the MTC and just arriving, like Elder Hafen, Sister Perry, Sister Shuldberg, and Sister Grizzell. I would recommend writing a letter to yourself with your testimony in it and why you're on a mission to look at during rough moments. Your own strength will surprise you!
Lots of love,
Hermana Alley
P.S. Last week I forgot to say thanks so much to the Geneva ward relief society for the candy and all the notes! They really lifted my spirits and helped me feel your love!
P.S. Also happy birthday to my little brother Aaron on Friday, the wise age of 8!! Can't wait to see your baptism pictures!
